This is a message I received today from my school district's "Chief Academic Officer"

Anonymous
"The month of October presents us with the leaves changing and the weather becoming cooler. Which means, attendance could be impacted based on trend data in our district. However great the challenge, we can change the landscape by placing a stronger emphasis on attendance and pushing for engaging lessons from our educators. While creating and maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment that will entice our students to be in school every day."

"As your leader in this work, I am committed as well and am confident that together we will win and our students will excel academically when in school daily."

Lovely. I am so grateful to be "led" by someone with such an excellent grasp of the English language

am I too petty?

The least the could have done was run it through grammarly.

It is remarkable how much these school officials are pressed to avoid directly mentioning COVID.

Yea, that’s pretty poor writing.

Maybe they were doing shrooms.

Perhaps your chief academic officer is a robot.

😂 This gives robot vibes.

But seriously agree with all PPs. This is so poorly written.

Grammarly corrected below

October presents us with the leaves changing, and the weather becoming cooler. The weather could impact attendance based on trend data in our district. However great the challenge, we can change the landscape by placing a stronger emphasis on attendance and pushing for engaging lessons from our educators. While creating and maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment will entice our students to be in school daily."

"As your leader in this work, I am also committed and confident that together we will win and our students will excel academically when in school daily."

It seems as if it is written, I believe, in an oddly detached “voice” and I am attempting at this point to capture the essence of the above statement by responding in a similar manner, leaving oddly, punctuated sentences.

So, at this time, the point is that as the season changes from one into another let us be mindful of the fact that students should earnestly strive for attendance and achievement goals despite our changing health and global climate. To this end, perhaps we all would be helpful to enable one another and each other in maintaining impactful and meaningful lessons so we may all learn from one another, well.

Be well and engaged and responsive and recall that support systems flow outward to all who are in need of only by asking for helpful solutions.

How’d I do? I think the “educator” author is trying to convey that as we enter flu season and Covid continues, prepare accordingly and as always, adhere to attendance requirements.

I like to maintain my anonymity. It is a large, urban public school district in the northeast. Not DCPS.

I think this is even worse! Frankly I think the message itself is mainly fluff and unnecessary though

PP quoted an this is typical edu-speak/word salad/unclear writing at its worst.

I’d hate to have to translate this gobbledygook into 7 languages to send out to all “stakeholders.”

“COVID is a big problem in our community. We are going to pretend that planning engaging lessons will solve it.” There’s the email.
