We have 24 kids in our first grade class. Room parent is asking for donation for Halloween class party, how much should I donate? That will be for decor, treat, favors, games for kids in the classroom.
$5 or $10? |
| $5, no more. |
| Op here. I wish the room parent specifically mentions how much per family if we can, rather than me guessing around. |
| What's your school like? Title 1, Focus, Wealthy? I've been room parent in a Focus school and only a handful of people would send in $5. I do $10-$20 because otherwise room parent is essentially funding the party. |
| Our MCPS school collects $15 per student to cover Halloween and Valentine's Day parties. The cost covers food, decor, games and treats. All the classrooms are required to have the same parties. |
| We are asked for $25 to cover class parties for the year if we can afford it. (There are quite a few families who can't, which is why they ask for a larger donation among those who can.) |
| My instinct would be $20, to account for the possibility that some families may not be able to contribute at all or very much. |
| I would send in $10 or ask to send in stuff if you prefer. For our school, only a few would ever respond, rarely would people send money, even those that could afford it and I ended up paying for most of the parties (thankfully only twice a year) and it was hit or miss what we'd get. But, its not that expensive if you do a costco cake, water and a few snacks or pizza and you can reuse the decor year after year and just a few activities. |
| I'd give $5. Even if four kids don't contribute, $100 for a class party is PLENTY! |
+1 |
| Depends on the party. My son's class went on a cruise. |

+1. Even in our somewhat well off elementary school, many parents ignore and send $0, and don't sign up so those of us who did sign up to run the party wound up "donating" our $$ for decorations, pizza party, game prizes, etc. |
DCUM: spring break trips planned for 2024, purses, dining, expensive bidding war houses, travel team sports, etc. Also DCUM: what? you want me to donate more than $5 for my kid's class party?

OP here. That will be no pizza or food for this party because it is hosted right after lunch hour. There may be treat bags or snacks for kids, and we are not Title 1 or focus school, probably above average income level school.
They are asking donation for this party only, not for the rest of the year. |
