Favorite coed schools

I am thinking about a coed indepedent school in DC or the surrounding area. Any advice on favorites and reasons why would be appreciated!! I am thinking about my DC entering in kindergarten. Thanks!

My favorite coed schools for K through 6 are the MCPS public schools. Even though I have a DC in a private school in 8th grade now, I just don't think private schools are worth spending money on until at earliest 4th grade if you have a good public school.

OP, is this for a boy or girl? There are many good schools in the DC area, so it would be helpful if you told us a little about your child's interests (i.e. art, music, sports) and the type of environment that you're looking for (i.e. low key? religious component? sports emphasis? arts emphasis? heavy academics?).

And ... nobody asked you.

This is a silly question by someone who hasn't perused this board.

I'm not the OP -- but the question is no "sillier" than any other. Maybe someone just wants to start a little ruckus. It's kind of boring on this private school forum now that GH and Landon have been relegated to the bleachers with their own thread.

GDS, Sidwell, Maret. That's the simple answer.

It's not a simple answer. The three schools are very different. One tilts international. One's got a country club vibe, even though it tries not to. Another is kind of wildly progressive, the lower school's intensity is palpable on visits.

In addition to GDS, Sidwell and maret, which are widely viewed as the best schools, particualrly GDS and Sidwell, there is Edmund Burke and Potomac.

Which one is international? Which one has the country club vibe? I'm guessing that GDS is the "wildly progressive" one--or is that Sidwell?

I looked at Potomac's website since we live in NOVA. It sure doesn't look "conservative" to me. "Diversity and inclusion" is featured as a prominent objective, and it doesn't look like they're talking about viewpoint diversity--just race and ethnicity. "Environmental stewardship" has its own website section. A friend told me Gay Pride days are also celebrated on campus. Without passing judgment on the value of any of these enterprises, they certainly aren't what I'd associate with a "conservative" school, regardless of how many card-carrying Republicans may send their kids there.

Sidwell is a lot of things - country club? You have never stepped on campus.

I was going to say, there are a lot of things one could say about Sidwell, and "country club" wouldn't be on the first 100.
