Elementary School-Aged Kids
| My DD is 9 years old in the 4th grade. She is doing "ok" in school and her teacher seems to think she if fine without a tutor. However, I think that our educational system is to comfortable with average performance and she is capable of much more. I know this sounds like I am an overly assertive mother but my other DD is 14 and was just accepted at T.J. Before I moved her to private school, FCPS told me that she was performing up to her potential and was at best an average student. My 14 year old is dyslexic and I am not sure if LD issues are involved with my 9 year old. I think a tutor could help me determine if the 9 year old needs more help or the summer off. Please let me know of anyone who has helped your child. |
Instead of a tutor, have you thought about have her assessed? If you suspect your child may have a LD, you both need to know. I know you say you're older DD is dyslexic but I'm surprised you're more interested in a tutor than an evaluation. An evaluation also isn't much more expensive than a few hours with a tutor. |
I am a tutor with a Master's degree in special education. I used to work for FCPS but am now at home with my kids during the day and I tutor in the evenings.
Email me at restontutor@yahoo.com if you are interesting in tutoring services, or I can also point you in the right direction for educational testing if you think your daughter might need it. Good luck! |
