If you are thin and older, where do you buy clothes

Anonymous
I am 5'6'' and 118 lbs. Long inseam and over 45. I am tired of shopping at stores for teens, I would like mature clothes that fit. It is next to impossible unless I shop at sacks or Needless Markup.

Help please

Wear It Well in Bethesda. The store is tiny but they have GREAT stuff.

What's wrong with Jcrew? They have women in their 20's up to their 60's in the catalog.

I'm almost exclusively jcrew.

OP here, I am still too thin for their clothes, inseam not longh enough.

Clothes designed for teens generally fit well, but they look like teen clothing.

Anthropologie? I shop there and am quite small. The pants are always a foot too long on me, so they may fit you. The quality can be disappointing for the price, but I love a lot of their styles.

Theory for pants (try outlet)
Banana Republic for fitted tops (XS)
Dresses, anywhere. There are many styles out now that looks nice on thin women who are tall. Do you have a chest?
Skirts look great to me on tall thin women
White pants/jeans -- you can wear them, most of us can't! (Jcrew or teen stores if you need to, just get a classic cut)

I am tall and thin and wear J. Crew but only the tall sizes for blazers/coats and pants.

To avoid:

JJill
Talbots
Eileen Fisher
Lands End
Ann Taylor Loft

All seem to run HUGE.

A great tailor does wonders.

Pencil skirts with fitted tops or button downs would look nice with your figure

Try Limited for pants. Just buy a classic style. They run slim.

Ralph Lauren (NOT the stuff you buy at Macy's under Lauren) but the Ralph Lauren store is made for women with your figure. I lust after these things, but am too curvy for most of it. Get to know a salesperson there and they can look out for you and suggest a few really classic, elegant things that you will wear often and forever (i.e. camel pants, a white cashmere fitted sweater, etc)

No good suggestions, but just chuckling that as a tall curvy woman the list of AVOID stores are the ones I regularly check out (although style-wise I have been striking out there in recent years).
