Why are parents allowed to opt out of sex ed?

I don’t understand. We don’t allow parents to opt out of reading and math.

I'm sure if you put up a stink, you could opt out of anything. Sex ed was something people put of up a stink about, so now to save themselves hassle, schools just ask.

Some of us want to teach about it ourselves - we are more equipped to explain the nuances and tailor the instruction based on our child's maturity level and our own respective values.

I opted out of all the dissections in bio, no problem.

I'm sure there are kids who opt out of evolution in science. This is just the most common one.

I'm reading a book written for adults of childhood dysfunction. An example of a boundary dysfunctional parents abuse is not teaching kids about sex. Keeping important information from them is abusive.
