| AOPS is famous for its math courses, but was wondering if the language (English) courses were any good (and fun). Would love feedback with good or bad experiences. |
| Bump. Not OP but I am curious about this as well. |

My DD takes LA along with math. She enjoys the LA class and has had a good experience. It has helped her expand her vocabulary, improve her grammar and progress in her writing.
I would recommend. |
| Not crazy about them. Did before and way too $$. Did not find any gain, but again, our personal experience. |
| Are there any other good language arts classes that are offered in person in the DMV area? |
| My main issue is that DS wants to take extra math and is happy with the class. He has no interest in a writing class. He would benefit from the writing class more but it would be more of a push by us. |
| I don't have experience with the language courses but I wasn't all that impressed with the short summer camp math classes for younger kids. The content seemed mostly random. I think the regular year versions though were fantastic. |
| If you are looking for TJ prep, AoPS is not it. |
Then what would make the cut? |

Following. I am interested in some kind of language arts enrichment class for my kid. He’s not challenged by the AAP curriculum and finds it boring. Book club is usually him convincing others to do their work.
Creative writing classes? Journalism? Any ideas? |
| My kids took the AoPS classes for 4th and 6th grade, and we all thought they were great. The focus was much more on grammar and writing than it was on reading, but they still read a lot of interesting books. Both kids felt like they learned more in the AoPS class than they did for the entire 2 hours per day of language arts block at school. |
| My kid went to AOPS writing classes in 3rd grade. Not impressed at all. And also all depends on the kid's interest. Too much to cover in 1.5 hours. DC was not doing work completely in the class and at home unless I push DC. It wasn't appealing and challenging for DC whereas AOPS math was good for DC. Waste of money in writing. |
