I was surprised to see my dog's scrotal skin just hanging there deflated after he was neutered. I don't know why I assumed the whole thing would be removed, as I've never seen a dog with hanging deflated scrotal sac. Is this normal procedure?
Yes! My vet told me it’s because of swelling in that area. I was surprised how they did it, too. He had a vertical incision on his stomach. The swelling eventually goes down and the sac isn’t noticeable anymore.
It eventually shrivels up and isn’t noticeable.
Omg me too, OP! Just had our little guy neutered. I expected the sac to be removed! It just hangs there. I don’t remember seeing it like that on other male dogs. Vet said it normal but I certainly was surprised!
It’s normal! My dog also had a sad black empty scrotal skin. Over time it got smaller and smaller, by a year or two afterward it’s completely gone and I have trouble finding the surgical scar.
Thanks so much for all of your responses! This is such a relief to hear that the skin will shrink back. |
Yes, it shrinks. It shrank away in a few months in both my young dog (7 months) and senior rescue (neutered at 10 years).
