Hi - is there an issue with hydrangeas this year, due to the weather earlier in the year (ice, hit, cold, hot)? My very established, full hydrangeas seem to be all dead wood over much of the bushes.
Mine have just started getting leaves in the last few days.
Glad to hear it because mine also just looks like wood |
I have 2 endless summers and 1 little lime. One ES died completely, and the other looks half dead. The little lime also looks half dead. It looks like they had a lot of buds that were lost during that really cold snap.
Mine always look like dead wood. I did have a few set buds die, but after last weekend there is a lot of new growth at the base and new blossoms on the old wood. Just let it be. At very worst it may not bloom this year (but still grow and turn green). It will make a come back, they are are cold hardy, and have been loving this rain.
Our oakleaf came in super late this year. It's just getting leaves in the last day or so. I was worried about it but less so now. The smooth hydrangeas in our backyard are looking much better but more sheltered from the elements. I do think the funky weather is making it hard on plants!
All the hydrangeas in our neighborhood look like that. But a few are starting to get leaves. Give them some time.
My Endless Summers were full of buds that were killed off by that late snow that we had. I've cut them back pretty hard and there's a lot of new growth at the base of each of them. It will have to be a recovery year, I guess. Oakleafs and Annabelles leafing out very nicely.
They’re a weed. They’ll grow no matter what. Just ignore them.
This is not true at all. I don’t think you know what you are talking about. OP give it more time |
