My rental car is a cheap base model, cloth interior — how do people drive cars like this?

There's something so cozy about driving in a beautiful new car, the technology, the comfy leather, quiet engine, all the creature comforts. And sure, maybe some status. Today has reinforced my outlook that it's so freaking worth it to splurge a little on new wheels.

Not everyone can afford a nicer car. Be grateful you can.

Life is nicer with some luxuries (as long as you can afford them and aren’t trading financial security for said luxuries.).

what's their to get? They don't view cars as a luxury status. If don't have to drive too many miles what's the big deal?

OP doesn't seem to understand the concept of differing tastes.

There are many people who have different tastes than you, OP. I don't like leather or vinyl seats; I like cloth seats. I wear shorts in the summer and the upgraded seats stick. In the winter they're cold and take longer to warm up. I know people that like sleek and simple. The top end "technology" are all a bunch of useless buttons that just crowd up the nice clean look of the dash. They want the basics, but won't use the fancy stereo and don't want a console that you need to press 18 buttons just to get the A/C to turn on.

Amazing how insensitive people can be like OP. How do you live in the real world and not offend everyone around you, OP? Or are you just as clueless about people as you are about cars and tastes?

I'm reading this thread to my chauffeur right now and we're getting a kick out of it.

Pardon me, but would you have any Grey Poupon?

Bahahahaha!

The two most obnoxious people I know are named Joe and Mike, so just checking.

Does Joe and Mike work in the same place?

The chauffeur may have been laughing with you, but he very well may be seething on the inside too. There is a definite income disparity between the person being chauffeured and the person being hired to chauffeur.

The PPs were making a joke.

If someone makes it to the point of being a chauffeur for one family, I can assure you the income disparity doesn’t bother them. The household staff who can’t deal with it get weeded out long before that stage of their career. Some of us actually like working for individuals and families.

I tune out my family when they go on and on about how they LOVE their sh*tboxes and how much money they save with no car payment and how we're so wasteful for having two Audi Q7s. Nope. We love them. I enjoy my commute to work. I am comfortable if it's my turn to carpool to kids' practice. Nothing could make me go back to driving old used cars. Sorry I'm not sorry.

I'll miss that car. But it'll be worth it.

Already planning who gets the car stage?

I just don't care that much about cars, OP. I learned to drive in my 20s and really just see my car as a way to get around, not anything special. I like having zero car payment on it as well. I do get liking indulging in something special but...not something that another person could crash into and wreck.

But by this logic you shouldn’t get a new house either because a fire/storm/act of god could destroy it.

OP is bored, wanted a hot thread, and knew that the fastest and easiest way to get it was to start one on SAHMs or luxury cars. Nothing whips up DCUM into a frenzy as those two topics do.
