We bought a house over the winter which came with 6 large well cared for rose bushes. We have very young kids so they’re not practical to keep since they’re right in the play area of the yard … I hate though to have them taken and killed, so my question is: is there a market for mature bushes? If so, how/where do I sell for someone to come dig them out and take them?
Thanks! |
| Where are you? Find a garden group on FB. Someone will come dig them up. Can you use a garden app to identify the type of rose? |

A market in the sense of selling them? No. In terms of someone coming to dig them up for free? Maybe.
But honestly if they were grafted you can just cut off most of the canes and then pull them up from the central one. Do it after a heavy, sustained rain. If they’re own-root, you might have to stick in a shovel but it still won’t be difficult. |
| Op here: good thinking to try to ID, I’ll do that! I’m in Arlington. Honestly don’t care if I sell or someone just takes them who can dig up/transport and care for them |
| Offer on FB, people like these. |

I'd be interested in taking them off your hands, since I have a passion for roses, but I would need to know the variety first. I only collect particularly fragrant rosebushes. They are relatively rare. |
| FB marketplace. |
| Offer them for free on buy nothing page or other local listserv. People like Ed free stuff. If they’re gonna pay they may as well go to a garden center and not have to deal with a stranger and digging it up. |
