Newegg - a trustworthy retailer?

My teen son wants to buy a graphics card which have been pretty hard to find during the pandemic. He finally found one on a site called NewEgg. I’ve googled a bit and I think it seems like a legit outfit, but was hoping some tech savvy gamer types might be on DCUM and can tell me what they think. Thanks.

Yes. NewEgg is legit. They were one of the first tech websites when people starting buying parts online.

Yes, they are legit. One of the more popular sites for tech stuff. Son shops there all the time for his gaming PC.

They are legit, but also shady. Many years ago I had a fraud issue with them, and they refused to deal with it and my credit card’s fraud department told me that they had a lot of problems with NewEgg, which means it was an inside job. It’s been enough years that hopefully whoever was stealing card numbers is gone, but the way I was treated by them means I never would use them again. But they are a real company - if they have something like ApplePay, you are fine.

So far so good with me. I do try to stick with items sold directly by them and not a "partner".

Newegg is legit if you buy stuff that is "sold by Newegg." Avoid other sellers who sell through Newegg. Unlike Amazon, Newegg doesn't provide much in the way of buyer protection if there are problems with a third-party seller. But, yeah, Newegg itself is fine.

OP here. Just wanted to say thanks for the help. We placed the order. The item is sold by Newegg. Fingers crossed.

It will be fine. As others have said, "sold by newegg" products are basically as good as "sold by amazon". Anyone that buys electronics or computer parts on a regular basis is very familiar with the site.

Newegg is great, I have been using them for many years, customer service is good, price is good, quality is good and shipping is quick and reliable. I would suggest filtering products by seller though. they allow 3rd party sellers to sell through them and I prefer to only buy items sold directly by newegg.

I bought some Lysol off of their website when it was in high demand. The entire order was expired and they gave me a really hard time about getting a refund. Had to dispute with my credit card to get the money back.

I think they are just a shady re-seller of third party crap that is unverified. I would stay away.

They are. I have used it many times. Never had an issue.

I forgot all about them. Used to use the website a lot for cameras, but that was long ago. Always a good experience. Didn't know it was still around.

Used to buy from them all the time. Now I can hardly navigate their site and it seems like most everything is from third-party sellers, so I avoid. Sad.
