Doula Recommendations

Anonymous
Hi,
I'm delivering at Medstar WHC with the midwives group in early May. Any doula recommendations? Looking for someone who will support at-home labor, hospital birthing and maybe a small amount of postpartum support as well.

Thank you!

I can’t because I am still so angry I wasted 800 on one. I should have just flushed all that money down a toilet.

I’m debating whether I should get one or not so would love to hear more!

I had a great experience with DC Birth Doulas. https://www.dcbirthdoulas.com/

I would not recommend District Doulas. I had a consult that sent me on a depressive spiral, the doula on call was alarmist and unprofessional.

I used DCBD and did not have a good experience, so your mileage may vary. No support until I'd been in the hospital for about 18 hours already, and then when I needed her to back me up during labor she didn't. Birth went fairly sideways and then her attitude was "baby's healthy! We did it! Can you leave me a good review on Yelp?"

I had the money to spend but if it had been a stretch for me I would have been furious. As is I'm very turned off from the concept.

Ugh I'm sorry you had to labor like this. I found it helpful to have them as a resource when I was dealing with an unhelpful OB, being pressured into inducing early when there was no medical reason to do so, etc.

My labor was pretty straightforward w/ great medical staff, but I wanted to have someone in case things got complicated and the nurses were not helpful (turned out not to be necessary). TBH I was also worried about having someone deal with my husband who, as expected, was really overwhelmed and had difficultly seeing me in pain. I needed to focus on me and the labor.
