| I live inside the 495 / 270 spur and have noticed the last few nights that I can actually see a lot of stars on a clear weather day. I can see the downtown Bethesda light pollution off in the distance but straight up and NW it looks clear. Does anyone in this area have a telescope and think it’s worth purchasing? I think it’s something my kids would like if we could actually make out the moon or planets! Thanks! |

Yes, worth it!
You can see a lot. Of course, it is not as good as being out without light pollution, but you have great views of the moon, planets, and can see the planet's moons. You can see so nebulas, star clusters... it is a lot of fun. Although it will be more fun on warmer nights. I got one from Orion Telescopes... and have used it a lot. You can see a lot with a good set of binoculars also. |
| I have a Celestron 8” and use it in my Vienna Barack yard. Great for planets and nebulas. But, I am severely limited by light pollution. I did take it out west before Covid, and went camping near Stanley Idaho- that was amazing, but a long car trip. C8 is too big for a plane. |
