| My standby smaller tomatoes are Sungold and Principe Borghese as they are generally productive, tasty (we dry a lot of the Borghese ones), and disease resistant. Want to branch out a bit and looking for inspiration! What other cherry/grape tomatoes do folks have luck with in this area given the high heat and humidity? The last couple other varieties I tried just didn't compare- either they succumbed to disease or cracking to the point that the tomatoes went bad quickly. |
| I saved seeds from a volunteer from my yard that is a favorite -- it seems to be a cross between sungold and black cherry. A cherry as sweet as a sungold. Yum! |
| I grew the Bumblebee tomatoes last year, as well as the Indigos. They did very well. |
| I always buy "jelly bean" seedlings from the catalog but often the plants from Home Depot do as well or better. |
| Brad's Crazy Cherry is crazy prolific. |
|
For yellow cherry, I prefer Sun Sugar and Sweet Gold to Sungold (less cracking).
For red cherry, Super Sweet 100 does really well, very prolific, and very sweet. And all cherry varieties are very disease resistant, never have to spray with anything. |
I second the super sweet 100. I really like them. |
Yes and they come back each year. I have a Super Sweet forest at this point |
| I basically grow Sungold plus one more each year. And each year, I regret wasting space on the tomato plant that isn’t a Sungold. They’re just the best! |
| Bumblebee or Black Cherry |
| Jasper are my favorite small red ones. Sunrise Bumblebee is a bit larger and also very productive. |
| Midnight Snack from Burpee. Just ordered some seeds and some Sungold seeds. I also had good luck and no cracking with the A Grappoli D’Inverno from Baker Creek. Will be starting my seeds in early March. Pepper seedlings already sprouted under my grow light. |
