Help - my kids want a PS5 for Christmas but I don't understand technology

Anonymous
I am looking to buy the console and the minimum number of other accessories that are necessary for two kids to play at the same time. I assume I need two controllers. Anything else? I have seen bundles but don't understand if I really need one. I don't want to buy them games up front because I don't know what they like. I have one 32 inch 15 year old TV that we barely watch. I'm not sure it is a 'smart' tv. What are the minimum requirements of a TV that will accommodate a PS5, or can they play on a laptop?

Any size tv is fine. Good luck finding one as they have been hard to get for over a year. You just need two controllers.

This is the OP again. They have headsets that they have used with Nintendo Switch. Do I need to get new ones for PS5?

You cannot connect a PS5 to a laptop. You may have to buy a bundle just to get a PS5, if you can find one at all. As stated, they have been sold out since their release.

I am not sure the minimum TV requirements, but we have it hooked up to an older one (at least 10 years old...not sure if older). It is a flat screen but I don't think there is anything else special about it.

The real issue is that you will probably not be able to find a ps5 at all.

Maybe. It depends on how they connect. Cross this bridge once/if you get a PS5.

Ahaha! PS5s are very hard to get. My husband got one for our teen girls as a Christmas present. He monitored sites and waited for the online "store" to open every week for four months until he got one in the cart. Two months ago.

Good luck.

Where do you plan to get this ps5? They are nearly impossible to get. eBay for 3x the price?

That have two versions, one for a cd and one for digital. I would get the disk version. Get it from a legit store so there is a warranty, not overpay at a reseller.

And, yes you probably should get a new tv.

Any idea if inventory will open up after christmas? My kids will probably buy that Santa is having supply chain issues.

And they would also probably be ok if I got some accessories and a membership and the console came later.

We have tried to get one on and off for a year and gave up. You have to stock the websites and get lucky.

They are fine but very old technology. Wait and get a PS5.
