imessage on Android?

My son has an Android, but it seems like all of his friends have iphones. They are using imessage for their group chats and I feel bad that he's left out. Any way to get and send imessages from an Android??

I have a text group with a friend like this and I think she uses an iCloud email address which works for this

If you can't figure it out, get him a super cheap iphone. Or figure out if Whatsapp will work for this.

This is why my 6th grader got a brand new iphone 8 (3yrs ago). There are other apps but likely all of the kids won't switch. I don't like iPhones and didn't have an old one to hand down, so it was her being left out of everything, or get the iPhone.

If they just have one friend probably not a big deal to message elsewhere, but in a group I think it always will be iMessage & facetime for kids, at least for the foreseeable future.

I do iMessage my kids from my macbook.

Pp here. What I meant is that my roommate has a primary android and a 2nd phone. An iphone. Sge has the cheapest one or a used on. And she always has both.
