Do any of you teach for Virtual Virginia?

Anonymous
I’m a teacher in one of the public schools and am looking at my options for next year. If you were in public school and now work for Virtual Virginia, do you like it? I would appreciate hearing any pros and cons. The salary is less but I’m wondering if it’s less time consuming with the never ending demands of PD and testing in public schools. TIA

I don’t work there but know someone who does. There is a big difference between ES and MS/HS. I know some of the assignments are self-grades, but I also know that there are more expectations around office hours and regular student/parent communication.

Thanks. What are the big differences between ES and MS/HS?

This is OP. I assume there would be office hours and a significant amount of contact with students. I’m a HS teacher. It’s hard to tell from their website what the sessions look like. I found a FAQ that said lessons are videos but then the live sessions are recorded. I’m trying to understand what teachers actually do and if anyone who made the switch is happy.

It’s very similar to last year, you will still do live sessions every day. The classes can get VERY big, so 5-6 classes at 40 kids can add up.

Number of students, length of the day, length of office hour and small group instruction time, etc.

Thanks. That’s a lot of students to manage. It sounds like it wouldn’t be a great option right now, considering it pays less. I’ll keep looking.
