Sandals - that have the support of sneakers?

Anonymous
Does anyone have reccomendations for sandals that are as supportive or almost as suportive as sneakers? I don't really care if I look "hip" or "fashionable" - all I want is something I can wear in hot weather and still be able to take off running after my son that will supply my 40 year old body with some support (otherwise my body will have all sorts of aches and pains)

Keene sandals? They're not super stylish, but not terrible either and are great for running around in.

I second Keene. I LOVE my Keenes!

Lands End makes some really great supportive sandals. I wore the Mary Jane trekkers every day in Disney last year. They are great.

I also wear supportive sandals all summer long. I know most people love Keens but they make my big feet look bigger. And I've returned Lands End sandals because they weren't supportive enough. (I've had bunion surgery and wear orthotics most of the time.)

I've been pleased with Columbia brand sport sandals. Here's the pair I have, though mine are tan, not blue.

Merrell is another good brand for supportive sandals.

Try the brand Fitflops. Very comfortable.

I have a pair of Privo sandals (made by Clarks) that were comfortable enough for playing tourist 3+ hours for a few days in a row. They have ankle straps, so they stay on, plus decent padding. They aren't so sporty that I couldn't wear them with a denim skirt or cropped pants (like my old Tevas). These are the ones:

They run long.

I have found that Lands' End's shoes run really wide and I can't wear them. I have winter Merrell that I love, so those are also worth looking into. My DH loves his Keenes, although we have dubbed them the Ugly Shoes.

Dansko also makes sandals. I'm finding Danskos to be kind of heavy these days, but they might work for you. If you can spend $$$, Taryn Rose has wonderful supportive sandals. Arche, a French company, also makes great sandals. I would go to Nordstrom and take a look at the sandal selection in the women's shoes and the salon shoes (not the Brass Plum shoe section, which has mostly trendy shoes for younger women).

OP here. The Columbia ones won. I love the idea of the support in Keene's but for some reason, Keenes just don't fit my feet. Same with privos. I can look at the shoe and think "wow, it looks so comfortable and supportive " and then I put them on and wonder why I am wearing the most uncomfortable shoe in the world. I think I spent 10 minutes putting the darn thing on and off - trying to figure out how a shoe can look so supportive and feel so bad

But I think the Columbia one's reccomended might do the trick. I must have the "feet" as that poster. Not everything I dreamed of, but then I realized, it's hard to get the full supportive feel of a sneaker - without the sneaker.

I love Birks. They have a molded cork footbed with great arch support. The Gizeh model is actually quite fashionable!

Chacos. REI sells them. Good molded arch support with Vibram soles. Get the kind with the heel strap, not the slip-ons. For running around after kids, you want something that's going to actually stay on your feet.
