Lately, every time I order a book, the paperback is more expensive. When did this change? |
Maybe the publishers realized many customers prefer paperback over hard cover. Maybe it also depends on the seller.
|
Trade paperbacks are higher quality so cost more. Generally, hardcovers are more expensive but can be discounted, sometimes heavily discounted.
The pandemic and supply issues have also affected publishing and bookstores and publishing houses are struggling to have the right number of books, not too many or too few. There may be some heavily discounted books, there will be shortages and unobtainable books. It's a mess. |
I ONLY buy paperbacks or Kindle versions, since I hate hardbacks and how bulky and heavy they are. I did notice price increases, lately, but then everything costs more these days... |
Sometimes the hard cover goes on sale when the paperback comes out. There’s usually a lag of about six months between. |
It's obvious and all these other excuses are bogus.
People prefer paperbacks so they are charging more for them. Period. |

Are they more expensive? I thought it was the other way around. |
Only when the paperback is about to be released. So it's a new release, and the hard cover is clearanced. |
