Good attorney for spousal support in DC

Anonymous
Getting divorced in DC. I did a consult with one lawyer who said I’d qualify for alimony. Would like to do a consult with one or two more to understand what the most likely alimony outcome might be or at least what will be reasonable to fight for. First lawyer was hesitant to give me an idea of what might be reasonable since DC alimony law is so broad (no calculator like other states). Any lawyer recommendations?

We do not have kids, but in the course of the marriage I became disabled and must work reduced hours which I’m doing under an ADA agreement with my employer. There is no human way possible to increase my hours at the moment unless there’s a medical breakthrough. This was the qualifying factor for the alimony according to my one consult, fyi.

So it’d be especially helpful if you all know of any lawyers who have dealt with similar cases.

So your spouse is not good enough to be married to but good enough to take money from? Sheesh. Poor guy/gal.

How long have you been married.

What is your disability?

A lot of disability is a scam so be prepared to have that contested in court.

I think you should probably lower your expectations as to how accurately any lawyer can predict the outcome.

Even if they’ve handled these types of cases before, without a calculator, each judge has a ton of discretion.

Thanks, this is good to hear. It’s basically what the first consult said.

tough situation. I’d think you want a lawyer extremely saavy about negotiation and settlement, who knows all the other divorce lawyers in town. I’m assuming your stbx is a high earner. seems worthwhile to invest in a very good lawyer.
