Is travel to Seoul worth it?

I have a conference I could attend in June in Seoul but not crazy about the 14 h flight and $2000 fare.
If you’ve been to Seoul, is it worth the travel time and cost?
I might be more excited if it was in Tokyo, although I haven’t been there before either.

I’ve heard it’s great. Would love to visit some day.

Seoul is awesome. Definitely worth a visit.

100%! Delicious food, easy to navigate, loved the city.

$2000 must be in Economy class. It’s really not fun to go to Asia in economy class unless you’re young and can sleep sitting up, or anywhere.

Also if you’re going to be in Asia less than a week I wouldn’t do it. It takes two days getting there and two days back, because of the time difference, jet lag and travel time

I would go to Seoul for a food tour alone! It has to be better than Annandale.

Seoul is a great city for food. And that's about it. I'd definitely go if someone else was paying!

It’s the OP.
Thanks for the responses.
I decided to go but will also travel to Tokyo for a week.
Flight can be reimbursed if I fly economy. Yes it will be painful. I’m 5’2”. It could be worse. Have flown to Hong Kong and Beijing in economy in the past for conferences and survived.

typical DCUM responses.

Enjoy your trip, OP! I think adding Tokyo more than makes the time and effort worthwhile.

I flew economy to Seoul. It was totally fine. Have fun.

My family, including my 6’1” husband, and I have gone to Korea in economy. The seats have more pitch on an international flight than in domestic. I’m taller than you and it was fine!

Yes, of course Seoul is amazing. It's one of the greatest cities in the world. Amazing food. You can often get better western pastries there than even Paris! Also checkout the meat market and eat Hanwoo beef. It's amazing, and I personally liked it better than Japanese waygu. You'll be walking in Seoul seeing all of the super modern infrastructure then stumble across a temple that's like 1400 years old. Amazing contrast.

Yes, you go there just for the food.
