How Many Vacation Days? RSS feed

Does anyone know if the “2 weeks” au pairs receive is 14 days, or 10 days? We never schedule our au pair to work on weekends or federal holidays, and invite her to attend all family vacations (no working at all - she just gets to chill at the beach and it doesn’t count towards her vacation time). I can’t seem to find clarity on how the 2 weeks vacation is quantified - is it 2 work weeks (so that would be 10 work days plus weekends), or 14 work days (which would equal almost 3 weeks). If anyone has clarity, please let me know! I just want to make sure we give her the correct information.

2 work weeks

We give ten days that they accrue throughout the year as they work. So it's not like January 1 they have ten days they can take off paid.

For what it’s worth I called cultural care (the agency we use) and they said they go by 14 days. They said other agencies say 10 work days. So if anyone is also looking for clarity.. I guess it depends on how each agency interprets “2 weeks”

At most workplaces this would be interpreted as 2 work weeks, i.e. 10 days. However if you can swing it and you can mutually agree well in advance on days off, it's can be beneficial for your relationship with your AP to interpret this generously.

2 work weeks.

This question comes up routinely. It’s 2 calendar weeks. Once APs start breaking it up, things get complicated. We typically provide many more (think 5 weeks off in summer, and probably 2 more weeks over the course of the year) vacation weeks, and APs still try to nickel and dime us for “their” time off.
