Hello,

I am debating for this upcoming school year. I don’t want my kids to take the school bus. I have been contemplating in looking for someone to drop them off and pick them up. But then I start worrying about things like “can you trust this person” etc etc. have any of you have found yourself in this dilemma?

No, DH or I drive the kids.

Drive them yourself.

Is this a COVID thing? Aren't they going to be exposed to the same crowded conditions in a classroom? If you're so worried, why send them back to school at all?

I don’t want my kid on the bus either. There’s no supervision and it’s too much of an age difference for me not to worry about bullying. We adjusted our schedules so one of us is home in the morning to either walk or drive (it’s a mile but crosses a busy road with no crossing guard) and we have a sitter who is a sham with a kid at the same school who picks up our kid 3 days a week.

It's hard to find someone to hire unless you pay an obscene amount of money.

It may not be a COVID thing. Long before covid, there was a rumor that two kids on my bus "humped" each other at the boy's house. We were in fourth grade, so naturally my mom was very concerned when I said "What does humping mean?" Anyway, she said that children were unsupervised on the bus and started driving me. She really didn't approve of the public system at all though.

Send them to boarding school. Stop being cheap

Might as well wrap them in bubble wrap. Kids can’t handle the bus. Lol. Why dont you hold their hand to their first job too

Why don't you want your kids to take the school bus? Way safer than being in a car with an unknown driver. More reliable too.

I didn’t want my kid on the bus either OP. Not because of Covid but because there is no supervision and I didn’t want my 5yo sitting close to 10/11 yos with no supervision. We adjusted our work schedules so one of us is home in the mornings to drive her. And we had an after school sitter do pick up. Our sitter had a kid the same age at the same school. And no I don’t plan on holding her hand to her first job interview she’s actually more independent than some of my friends kids now. I still feel good about my decision.

Many of us drive our kids. In many private schools we have no other option.

You have options including public.

We drive our kids to school and use aftercare to give us the flexibility to pick them up in a two hour time period.
