AP less than 45 hrs? RSS feed

My child attends a year long 5 day a week full day preschool; we need an AP to mange drop-off/pick up and some after hours care . Is it possible to get an AP for say 25-30 hrs a week? Happy to give room and board, just looking to see if I can reduce expenses, because clearly 40-45 hrs is too many hours for us.

25-30 hours is what most families with school-aged children use. You still pay the same program fees, stipend, etc.

We are under 20 during school year. Pay the same as everyone else. There is no discount. They are not hourly. Hire a high school kid for the hours you need, AP is a big commitment.

Yep. Most do. We use 20-30 a week. The nice part comes in the flexibility. You can go out to dinner and not worry about paying for a sitter.

Most people dont use 45hrs a week. Using the full 45 is outside of what most families use.

45hrs a week is the MAXIMUM hours worked and the weekly stipend is the MINIMUM pay.

You only want 25-30 hrs a week and the AP gets paid $200/wk. How cheap do you want it? Might check with human traffickers to get a better deal.

You can get an Educare Au Pair for $147/week who only works a max of 30 hours per week.
The candidate pool is much smaller and not as good however.

We use maybe 15 hours a week of childcare. Still pay the full amount and listen to the crazies on this forum complain about how we're taking advantage of poor, unsuspecting foreigners.

We use about 30 hours a week with our au pairs. It’s nice to have an au pair for the days when school is closed and you’re working, or when the child is home sick.

You can't reduce expenses, but you can have the AP work one Saturday morning a month, a weekday evening for date night, fold your kids' laundry, and manage all kid-related tasks. I put a morning when the kids are in school on the schedule and tell her the stuff just has to be done by the end of the week. If you train well, the AP can really help the household run more smoothly.

Hire a babysitter. Or nanny share with the other poster with wrong expectations of an ap. Hosting is a real job; the payoffs are in the hours they are not scheduled - it’s everything else of having a trusted set of hands in your home.

No one wants to work a split schedule like this.

A good au pair isn’t work.

Some nannies like split schedules, but there aren't many, and of those, many live-in. So, if you're going to have someone living in your house anyway, and you're open to the cultural exchange?

Nanny is not an Au pair. Please read who the Au pair is.

You may be able to just use care . Com to find a girl from Kansas or Iowa who wants be a live in, and pay her on an hourly basis. After 4 years of hosting APs, that is what I would recommend. And you can ask a domestic employee to help fix dinner and it isn't a crime against humanity.
