Any nannies not getting the holiday because it falls on a Saturday? |
Our contract shifts holidays that fall on a Sat to the prior week day, but that's what my work does too. If it did not, I likely would follow the same policy for my nanny. |
We follow Federal Holidays. Friday off for me. |
Op here. My agreement says I am off with pay on the fourth, but I was told to work. New position, so not much I can say. They don't seem to like me very much, no matter how happy I try to make them. ![]() |
Then you should be off with pay. Your employees are trying to be slick. It's common knowledge that the 4th doesn't always fall on a week day. If I were you they'd be paying me time and half or double time for that day. |
Yes, I should have mentioned it when we made the agreement. I didn't notice how the dates fell this year. I'm going to let it go as my error because I might get some extra time off before summer is over. Live n learn. |
If your new nanny family is not abiding by their agreement, that speaks volumes about their character(s). I personally wouldn't want to waste my time w/them. If they are doing this now in the beginning of your time with them, just imagine what lies ahead down the road. Sounds to me as if you can expect to be hustled more. You can just quit on the spot. Since they are not upholding their end of the agreement, you are not obligated to hold yours. After all, it IS a two-way street. |
I am a single mother with rent and responsibilities. I cannot just quit. I will wait and see if anything else happens, but as I stated, the "holiday falls on a weekend" wasn't discussed, and the father insisted it's just a bank holiday. My fault for not being ready ahead of time. I'm a seasoned nanny of many years and I don't just walk out of jobs. |
Employers like that will take advantage of you at every opportunity. Shame on them. |
Op here. Just to be clear, I don't mind helping out and working this particular time. I had just hoped for recognition of the fact that I should get holiday pay or another day off, or even a thanks for working. I've decided to not have an attitude and just hope for some extra time off in August. |
A family that won't give you a holiday off that you're entitled to isn't going to give you extra time off in August. They likely drafted the contract, so it is not your fault that it is ambiguous. They should give you Friday off as it was THEIR mistake. This is not about having a good attitude, this is about being a doormat. You have an agreement, and you should get the day off, holiday pay for working, or an alternate day off. Will they be working, or are they just lazy assholes? |
They are going away so I will get some time off. I do have guaranteed hours. They'll be working. |
I would point out that most places pay employees extra for working the holiday or give the holiday off. The same thing happens for the Friday before a weekend holiday. |
You show them the agreement and you take the day off. If they don't pay, you go to local Wage and Labor Office. |
Hevud a cheap bastard. It is a National holiday. Govt. Offices are CLOSED.Z |
