I agree with this. I'm in 16th St Heights, but the house we bought 2 years ago is in the Deal district, with feeder rights to Wilson. That was a huge part of why we bought this house. We love the neighborhood, and were worried about the schools, but this sealed the deal. Now the lines will be moved, and we too might have to decide what to do. My neighbors at the park don't want to send their little ones to a K-8, and nearly all of them are looking at charters. I hope we could all work together to make West and whatever our new middle school is better, but I know that is a lot of what-ifs for people.

We came here for Deal, Wilson and even Eaton and Hearst which we are zoned for. We will not send our children to up and coming and less performing schools. Period. This needs to be stopped. Crestwood must maintain its historical rights since it is west of 16th street in its own unique corner of NW DC.
Actually, Crestwood has never been inbounds for Eaton and Hearst. Many families go to those schools OOB, however.

All this to say, again, I'm not crying over the tiny numbers of people who are losing boundary rights they aren't using anyway.
Anonymous wrote:the boundaries are not solid in 16th Street Heights--13th and Delafield is solidly in 16th Street Heights but it is the Brightwood Park area that is trickier which is typically north of kennedy west of Georgia and east of 14th street. The 16th Street Heights part of the north area is all the blocks west of 16th street street that have fed in the past (and currently) to Brightwood and Deal ...like the 1400 and 1600 blocks of Montague and Madison etc. All south of Military/Missouri...
My friend on the 1300 blocks of Madison and Colorado consider themselves n Brightwood Park.

So did both of my adjacent neighbors who currently have kids in elementary school. We aren't captured in your data. If you care so little about me and my children and my neighbor's kids -- leave us alone and don't pick nasty fights on the Internet. We aren't contributing to Deal overcrowding, but retaining Deal means so very much to us.
Cutting out Crestwood out of Deal and Wilson will absolutely hurt the fabric of our neighborhood community. I don't expect people outside of our neighborhood to understand that, and I guess, if they lack basic human empathy, I suppose they won't care. We have a wonderful block where kids run around and play, we organize informal BBQs and block parties, and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for being IB for Deal and Wilson. I really believe drawing us out of Deal and Wilson will hurt the vibrancy of my neighborhood, and it breaks my heart.
Just curious, where did/will your (and your neighbors') kids go to elementary?
We moved here when my oldest DC was in preschool at a charter. The charter ultimately wasn't a good fit for DC, and DC will be going to elementary OOB this fall. My neighbors' kids go to charters & OOB for elementary.
I have to say this makes me question your argument that your neighborhood will lose a sense of community if you're cut out of Deal/Wilson. Sounds like all the kids go to different elementaries already (not your neighborhood school) and yet you still have a sense of community.
My point is that none of these families with young children would have moved here if Crestwood weren't IB for Deal and Wilson. Without D & W, families like mine and my neighbors' won't be moving here anymore.

It's south of Missouri, east of 16th st, west of Georgia, and north of Arkansas. What are 16th St Height's boundaries? I'm not sure there's a clear consensus on that.

Crestwood would love to have you! Lots of families with kids in DCI feeders here. It's been a wonderful place for my family. Nice yards, easy access to Rock Creek, and friendly neighbors. I would love nothing more than to be wrong about young families no longer moving here.
I'm highly interested in Crestwood for this reason. Which charters? LAMB here.
Lots of LAMB families here. Ask around at school. Or take a walk on a nice weekend day and ask some families you see playing outside.
This is great to hear. There's only two LAMB families that I know in my neighborhood- Petworth. Are the LAMB families in younger grades? We'll be in K next year.
