If the name has a significance for the parents then go for it. Otherwise, it makes me think that the mom has esteem problems and is trying too hard to be special by giving her child a "special" name. It is obnoxious, please don't do that to your child.

I grew up with a girl named Quincy. I don't remember her being subjected to any unusual teasing. I remember thinking it was a cool name when I was kid. She turned out just fine.

OP there is a trend on DCUM of mom's hating androgynous names. I think it is kind of ironic since we live in such a melting pot, "non-stereotype area" but oh well. I was a previous poster who queried on a different androgynous name and I got tons of haters which actually made me confirm my decision because now I know my name won't be on the top 25 list in the next year! you are going to have tons of opinions -good and bad and my advice is if you love it you should go for it. I have a friend who named her daughter Quinn and I think it is very pretty.

No. Absolutely not. Quinn is a good name for a girl, but I think it might be evolving into a trendy name.

I like it but we are from MA and don't think particularly fondly of that town so wouldn't use it. Very cute name though. Also know an adult with the name and it suits her perfectly.

voice of dissent. Dislike the name for a girl or a boy. Just not a name I would pick.

But what if she weren't cute? What if she felt that her features were mannish? Maybe she'd rather be something more flexible like an Elizabeth--where she could pick Bitsy or Liz, Beth or Eliza.

That is where my mom (and my entire family dating several generations!) is from. So I would probably only use it if it had meaning. Quinn is nice, too.

It's interesting to me that the only positive adjectives on this thread are "original," "cute," and "adorable." So, it's the sort of name that will catch people's eye as an unusual name (especially for a girl) on a baby announcement but might not fit an adult woman.

Jack Klugman immediately comes to mind...not a good thought
