Cooking parties are usually off limits for those with food allergies. It sucks to be excluded from a birthday party of a good buddy.

Why not a cooking party? Kids didn't have fun?

Oh, please. I will work hard to filter people like you out of DC's party!

Here is an outdoor plan for climbing and ziplines. Your son is too young for this year, but keep this place in mind for next year. It's gotten good reviews on Yelp.

What about a baseball game. Big Train in Bethesda does something special for birthday groups (I think they run the bases or something)

Thank you SO SO SO much for the woodworking idea! My son's birthday isn't until the fall but he loves woodworking and I think this will be perfect for him.

We had a woodworking party at the Lowell School for our son turning 9 and it was a big hit. The kids were 100% occupied and enjoyed working with tools on projects they took home at the end.

We took in cake and ice cream.

Last year I did my son's party at home and set up activities to keep them busy such as relay race. The boys had to race with an egg in a spoon, with a balloon between their legs, jump rope and there was a hula hoop involved at the end. His birthday is in April so the weather was great for a slip and slide. Most of the activities were outside so that was even better.
