The girl told me she had been to 54 birthday parties and this was only the second time she got to eat the cake with everyone. It made me sad since she obviously counts the times she's the odd one out, but thrilled that I made the little effort to make sure she was included.
Aren't most standard birthday cakes nut-free? Or does nut-free mean not made in a plant that processes nut products? I shouldn't assume, but I would've thought yellow cake with vanilla frosting would be okay for a kid with a nut allergy (at least the not severe kind).
