they should be, because they will affect your ability to resell the house. families with kids will think twice about buying if they can afford better it and you will have a smaller pool of buyers. also, check the various public schools forums. there are plenty of people who made the same reasoning and bought in areas with bad school because they were only planning to stay a few years and not they kids are school age and for all kinds of reasons they canno afford to sell and move.
