I figured she had a contract and could get out of her marriage at some point. She looks like a trapped animal.
She basically married the king of Monaco. That's kind of a life-long gig. Too bad she only realized that as she was about to walk down the aisle. I mean they dated for 8 years so its not like she wasn't aware of who he was before the proposal. Funnily enough, their wedding anniversary is 10 years next year and is only 3 months after William + Kate.
She realized it long before. Why do you think she tried to run three times and was forced back?
The only way they could force her back is if they had leverage over her. If Albert was paying for her lifestyle and her family's lifestyle. I heard he's the reason her parents aren't poor but that's just a rumor.
They literally forcefully took her passport. Did you not read the Vanity Fair article?
*rolls eyes* She's a South African citizen or was before marriage. She could have ran to the S.A. embassy and claimed refuge. Immediately been put on a plane home. Hell, all she had to do was hop into a taxi and demand they drive her across the border - Monaco is so tiny that could have been in France or Italy in 5 minutes. They don't require or check for passports when you're traveling between European countries by car or rail - even as a foreigner just like in the States.
Yes they do. You have to show passports at border crossings by car.
No for Schengen. Monaco is a de facto Schengen country since you can only get to and from Monaco by transiting through a Schengen country. I live in the EU with a US passport. Nobody checks my passport even at the airport (unless going to/from non-Schengen) and definitely not the zillion of access points between bordering countries.
