It's a pet peeve of mine. I don't put much thought into it or get upset but when I see it, it does annoy me. DH and I are very lovey dovey but sitting across from each other in a booth allows better eye contact and emotional connection than being physically close that moment.
Why does it annoy you, though? That's what I'm trying to understand. I also prefer to sit across from my DH so that I can look into his eyes, but DH really likes sitting side by side, so that's what we do.
I'm the first PP above. Hmm, how to articulate why it bugs me? It's hard to explain. If I had to say something I guess I'd say that usually it seems as if the couple is in the early stages of their relationship. Probably not true of DCUMers. So it's early in the relationship and they just have to be glued to each other but don't really have anything to say to each other. Urgh, I'm not doing a good job at explaining why. As lovey dovey and physical as DH and I are with each other, I want to be able to look into his eyes and have a real conversation like a human being. When I see a couple on the same side of the booth, I guess I'm assuming that they're not equals who want to look each other in the eyes, they're like teenagers who don't know how to relate to each other.
