I think it's weird and inappropriate that OP and others are mocking the fact this happened between two men. We are past that era where that should induce any shame, for one. And more importantly, making light of what sounds like an allegedly horrible assault is just gross.
I'm not sure about the others but the OP doesn't seem to be making light of the situation at all. There's nothing wrong with men attracted to other men. He sexually assaulted other men. That's very wrong. He's so filled with repression and shame about his closeted homosexuality that his outlet for it is to use his position of power to grope people and get away with it. That's also very wrong. It's abuse of power in addition to sexual assault and sexual harassment in the workplace. He's trying to salvage his career instead of just coming out of the closet. He's trying to promise he's really just a straight man. Ah yes, that straight urge to touch other men. Republicans that push gay people to pretend they're straight are the worst. No one is going to believe he's straight at this point.
I'm not sure his sexuality is the most important issue. If the allegations are true, he violently assaulted someone. I didnt know Schlapp's name prior to this or why you think he is especially homophobic, but I dont think you are the victim here.
So people do sexually assault others even when they aren't ashamed of their sexuality but in this case, I'd wager that his repression is what leads to this behavior. If he could just go out to a gay bar and pick someone up, he wouldn't have done this. So it's not so much the sexuality that's the important issue, obviously that's the assault but this assault was propelled by his shame and repression combined with a propensity to grope people.
I am not going to psychoanalyze someone I dont know anything about. But the mocking tones in the posts here about homosexuality are hardly in the spirit of acceptance. Also, a large body of research shows that sexual offenders get off on humiliating people by assaulting or harrassing them. So whether he is gay, straight, bi, or kink in his normal sex life is not the REASON he would choose to assault someone. The allegation is that he "pummelled" the victim in the groin. Could he have gotten satisfaction from being a dom to a sub man? Possibly. But that isnt what he chose to do, allegedly. This issue here is about consent and violence. Not "tee hee" over whether he is a closeted gay. People are allowed to be closeted, they dont owe you insight into their sexual desires. Unless you can link evidence that he personally and directly attempted to overturn gay rights, I dont see how giggling about people being gay is okay.
I don’t think there’s giggling about people being gay here. I think there’s giggling that there are finally at least some consequences from Republicans to deplorable behavior by a Republican, in that some of them are avoiding Schlapp’s conference.
Schlapp is NOT being attacked for homosexuality. He is being attacked for his deep, vicious hypocrisy, given he has enabled and promoted anti-gay behavior and legislation, he is being questioned for his psychotic behavior in trying to demonize and marginalize others for behavior that he himself engages in.
How does Josh Hawley figure into all of this? Wonder if there's an opportunity for him to chauffeur Matt Schlapp now and again? https://www.queerty.com/josh-hawley-cant-remember-poster-half-naked-man-hanging-bed-college-20210309
