People have bad impression because of the cost of a private room and because it is not "the best NICU in the city." Re: the cost - there is nothing you can do and it is totally annoying that you have to pay for a private room, and it is so freaking expensive, but I loved my OB enough that I did not care about that. The L & D nurses were AMAZING and so were the post partum nurses. I really thought I got amazing care. They also had a nursery, and although I did not use it, it is a great option. There was also none of that stuff that happens with teaching hospitals - a million med students watching you deliver or an intern taking your vitals. It was very quiet and no one came to do a satisfaction survey at all. I did get one in the mail, though. My experience with the lactation people was so-so. I was less than impressed. In regards to the NICU, my sister is a neonatologist at Children's and I was slightly high risk due to a blood clot disorder, but she had NO issue with me delivering at Sibley. Felt the care I would get, if needed, was excellent. My pediatrician does not round there, so daughter was seen by a Georgetown pediatrician. I was more than satisfied with my experience. Insurance changed and I can't stay with my OB anymore for baby #2, but would have delivered at Sibley again with no issue, if I could.
