We always eat something before we go to a party, my boys are big eaters and I don't want them to look like they are being greedy. Plus, I always do this before adult parties too, you never know how much food is going to be served, and being a picky eater, I never know if I will like the food.
OP here. We are the opposite. When we go to a party, we expect to be fed so we don't eat before the party, especially since the start time is before meal time. We already ate the previous meal so we aren't going to eat again before going to the party. I am having a morning birthday party for my son. The party will start late morning and of course we plan to serve our guests lunch. I think if the party time spills over to a meal time (past 12 or past 5), the guests are going to start getting hungry. If you had to travel to attend the party, by the time you get home and make dinner, it would be way past meal time. I think the only time you can probably get away with no meal is probably 2-4 but we've pretty much only been invited to parties that start at 10:30, 11:00, 3:30 or 4:00.
