Prof. Cheh would really be better suited as an at-large member. She sees her portflolio as a "big policy" one. I have generally found at-large Councilmember Phil Mendelson to be very responsive on local (ie Ward 3) concerns, although he's also known for his work on city-wide issues.
The bad news for you is that Phil now lives a few blocks from me in Takoma. The good news is that he was always ready to listen to us when he lived in Ward 3, so I'm sure you'll still find him as responsive as ever.
He moved from McLean Gardens? Schools: Her answer was not to fix Hardy and help with Deal overcrowding it was simply, let's build a new one. She knew it would never pass and she can wipe her hands clean of the issue. Plus her kids went to GDS so what the hell did she care. Not to mention she supported VIncent Gray when 80% of her constituents voted for Fenty. Crime: Silent. Business: Tons of empty strips, the old Babes establishment, Giant, the empty shops on Wisc Ave. She needs to work to reform business laws in the District to attarct more business instead of being concerned with bag taxes. Taxes: She was part of the Council that spent and spent and then turned around and voted to raise taxes. She basically stuck it to her own ward. What else?
What would have been your proposal for Hardy and Deal? My understanding is that those are the two best schools, improved during her time, and the criticism that Jeff et al have leveled is that she was grabbing for too much when other wards need schools too. So what is the alternative for Ward 3 if not building? Send kids to some school in another ward? Is that what you wanted?
