Hi, I'm the OP. Just thought I'd update now that school has been bacl in session for over a month and I've had some feedback from his teacher. I have noticed some clear improvements in my son's schoolwork over last year, particularly in the areas of work completion and writing. My son himself reports that he finds it generally easier to focus and pay attention, and as his writing has improved, his confidence has grown. He told me the other day that he "actually doesn't HATE writing that much anymore." Homework this year has been much less stressful for all of us. How much of this is due to maturity, continued practice, and his great teacher vs. Cogmed I don't know. But there does appear to be some correlation since I noticed changes after he completed the program. I also learned at our follow-up appointment that Cogmed's research shows that the full effects take up to a year to develop--essentially once you strengthen those functions, you use them more, which in turn continues to strengthen them, etc. So no miracle cure--he is still a spacey little kid and his teacher still has to give him gentle reminders to help him get started and refocus, but I feel like he is now more on the bell curve of normal as opposed to being way off the charts. In other words, now I have to tell him 2-3 times to put on his shoes instead of 12.
