Maternity clothes: if you were 4 weeks pg on Saturday, what would you need?

I know I'm reallly newly pregnant. Like 11 dpo, but I'm a planner.

I'm short and thin and showed early with #1. I have a good pair of maternity jeans, a tailored flattering pair of khakis, a black stretchy bootleg pant, and a pair of white pants that I saved. I'm thinking I just need a pair of skinny jeans to wear with flats, and maybe some pajama pants. For tops, I think I can get by on 5 long sleeved t shirts until spring. Maybe more? I think the majority of my maternity clothes should be spring/summer as I'm due August 20th.

I'd also add some kind of white blouse with a collar for the times you want a little something nicer than a t-shirt.

Tums. I would need lots of Tums. Buy yourself a Belly Band -- it will help you fit into your regular clothes for a while longer. I was in maternity pants by 9 weeks both times so it helped extend the length of my regular wardrobe for a while.

I would do casual dresses for summer. Very comfortable when you are big and it is so hot outside.

What I liked to do was, order from gap and oldnavy.com maternity. They have a better selection online, and you can return things to any store. I think they might have a longer and better maternity policy than strictly maternity stores.

You could buy the jeans and stuff now and wait til Feb/March to buy the Spring and Summer stuff.

I had only about 2-3 pants that I would rotate. Get a good pair of black lightweight pants and you're golden. Just get a bunch of tops and jewelry and it will feel like a different outfit.

There is a Gap Maternity store at Fair Oaks Mall. Otherwise, I think you have to mail returns back of maternity clothes, rather than take them to a regular Gap store. I may be wrong, but this was how it was for me this time last year. But, the return shipping was free.

I was 3 mos pregnant this time last year. I bought two black pants, two jeans, yoga pants, one brown pants, one formal dress (we had a wedding to do to), two work dresses, three casual dresses (and I wore my non-preg stretchy dresses too), a couple of button downs, several nice sweaters for work, a few casual tops for weekends, a maternity hoodie and a few tanks. Oh, and lots of super comfy underwear, which I confess I still wear! Poor hubby!

Plus, because the style is for longer tops these days, you can get away with regular tops for much longer, and save some money. they charge more for everything maternity/baby related! One last hint: Gap is CONSTANTLY having sales and send out discount codes. Get on their mailing list and never pay full price again!

I'm like 4+ months pregnant, and definitely into maternity pants already - and the bella band absolutely doesn't work for me. #1 was born in Dec, so I mainly have summer/fall clothes, and one thing that has been helping me extend my wardrobe for the cold weather is layering to cover the stretch panel on my maternity pants. So i've worn regular long-sleeve t-shirts under maternity short sleeve tops, dresses, etc.

Definitely wait to buy any more. I only say that from having lost a baby at 9 weeks. You also will not know how big you will get and when.

I agree with the previous poster (says the person who suffered 2 miscarriages). I know you are excited, OP, but you have many months to worry about maternity clothes. With my first, I didn't need maternity pants until 24 weeks (~6 months). Nothing is worse than going through a miscarriage and getting a package of maternity clothes in the mail. Trust.

I completely agree with this. If I were you, I would wait until I REALLY NEED the maternity clothes. You can use a bella band in the meantime.

I agree too. At least wait until 8 weeks and after you have seen the heartbeat - your chances of miscarriage are a lot lower then. Unless you are having excessive bloating, it's unlikely you'll need maternity clothes until then.

Agree. This is wise.
