Sinus Infection - Amoxicillin - Horrible Yeast Infection

Anonymous
Uugghh. Had a sinus infection (posted earlier this week), put on amoxicillin, now have a terrible yeast infection. Oh my goodness - I have NEVER had one this bad. I presume pregnancy is exacerbating it. What can I do until tomorrow when I call the OB's office?

Put some yogurt in your genitals. Don't wear undeweard and try to let "it" vent.

Also eat yogurt.

Call the doctor now instead of waiting. Or if your insurance company has a nurse line, call that.

Eating yogurt won't help much at this point unless you eat a lot, but get some probiotics from Whole Foods or someplace similar to balance out your system.

I just talked to my doctor about the same issue. She said that any of the 7-day over the counter medications are safe. Unfortunately, the Diflucan pill is not or hasn't been tested. I just ended my course of antibiotics and it's not that bad so my Dr. suggested I try Nystatin creme, which I happened to have on hand, and which is used on babies. We'll see if it works. Most OBs have a website listing their preferred OTC medications so you may want to check that out.

this happened to me but not from antibiotics. Call your dr because it won't just go away - they gave me some cream that I used with a plunger thing. It eventually got rid of it but in the mean time, try an Aveeno oatmeal bath and to prevent them, stop wearing underwear to bed.

If you're going out of your mind and need some immediate (temporary) relief, get some plain yogurt and a stick and make a popsicle, then stick it in your vagina.

For the next few days while you're at home, where a skirt with no underwear. Made a huge difference for me this summer. I'm allergic to the OTC creams, so I was desperate for anything that would help until I could get diflucan. Although you can't use diflucan, these tricks will help you heal faster and give quicker relief in the meantime.

FYI, whenever my dr prescribes an antibiotic, she always gives me a prescription for anti-yeast medicine to begin a few days after I start the antibiotic-- I've never used an antibiotic without incurring a yeast infection-- so next time you might want to ask for it up front.
