Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I've been plagued with indigestion throughout this pregnancy--usually in the form of lots of burping, bloating and occasional gas. I am now 36 weeks andf or the last week have been suffering really bad indigestion--here it is, 4 hours since I've eaten--smallish meals only---and I still am burping and have stomach pains and feel even more huge than I already am. I'm also getting diarrhea a bit more frequently. Is this normal for this stage or should I be concerned?
I'm at 32 weeks, and if I bend over at any time in the day, even first thing in the morning, I have to be careful about reflux.
tums have saved me.
I had a hiatal hernia before I was pregnant (where you stomach goes up into your chest cavity) and had a lot of acid reflux, indigestion and burping. I think being pregnant, your stomach gets pushed up and kind of mimicks this condition. Nexium is safe to take during pregnancy... but you may also try some other acid meds over the counter like Zantac. Tums may not help.. I found that the liquid Maalox or Mylanta helped me best. Also, don't lay flat after eating, and consider using an extra pillow at night.
(Liquid Maalox/Mylanta better than Tums, I mean). But Nexium is really the only thing that did the trick altogether. I ran out during pregnancy for a few days and was waiting on the mail order to come in. During that time OATMEAL was giving me heartburn, I was miserable. As soon as I got the pills I was fine again.
I could have written your post. The severity of symptoms varies from day to day, but I do find that taking Zantac 2x a day helps with the acid. The gas, pain and diaherrea seem to have a mind of their own and have nothing to do with what I ate.

OP here--thanks everyone. I've only tried some gas-x, with limited response, so I'll try nexium and zantac and liquid maalox and see what works...
and, of course, even though I can't seem to eat much, I'm still gaining plenty of weight. what's with that?!!! |
