Maternity Dress for wedding

Anonymous
I'm invited to a wedding and would like to buy a dressy maternity dress. Any ideas?

I would check maternity consignment shops first - Wiggle Room in Bethesda has nice high-end stuff, Kensington Caboose and the Growing Years have some too.

I'd check Nordstrom, too. I found a beautiful maternity dress that I wore to a wedding on their website.

I have a Pea in the Pod formal dress - black spaghetti strap top and skirt. It has a layer of black tuile over the top and then as a peddicoat underneath the skirt.

I wore it at 9 months and I am normally 5'-8" and 145 lbs.
It is really nice and If you are interested, I can send you photos. I wore it only once for 3 hours to a rehearsal dinner, and my friend wore it for 3 hours to an inauguration ball. If interested, post your e-mail and I'll take pics. She so wonderfully returned it to me dry-cleaned as well, still in the wrapping.

Try Appleseed in Old Town - I found something for the Inaugural there.

I found the most beautiful dress last year at Zara- I still haven't had a chance to wear it! However, I realized that it makes the perfect pregnancy dress. I found that pregnant women can pull off a lot of styles that are out right now. You may have more options if you look in non-maternity stores in addition to maternity stores. I needed a dress this summer and found something at Lord and Taylor. The good thing about finding a non-maternity dress is that you can wear it again when you are not pregnant. Good luck!

I got one at Pea in the Pod for $99 on sale. It's not my dream dress, but it's dressy and appropriate and considering I plan to wear it once for 5 hours, I'm pretty happy.

Lucky you!

Before buying the dress, please make sure that the person inviting you knows you are pregnant: in some cultures, pregnant women are thought to bring bad luck to the bride (ie -she will not be able to have children - I know, terribly superstitious), or pregnant women may not be able to attend specific rituals of the wedding ceremony.

i went to three weddings while pregnant and bought my dresses at jcrew. the ones that tie right underneath the chest fit pretty well with a round belly. but if your'e far along this may not be a solution for you.
i bought one size up from my regular size.
