Bethesda elementary schools -- help!

Anonymous
Moving to Bethesda and looking for a house. Can someone please let me know which Bethesda elementary schools are in the section of the town that is closest to DC? We're trying to minimize our commute as much as possible, but it's all pretty confusing. I think Woodacres is one of them. What are the other ones?

Many thx.

Chevy Chase, Somerset, Bethesda and Westbrook are the closest elementary schools to the DC line.

Check the MCPS website under the parents tab to find the school locator (type in a specific address) and to get boundary maps for schools

OP: Thanks to both of you.

Woodacres is pretty close to the DC line.

North Chevy Chase is pretty close too. Note: North Chevy Chase and Chevy Chase are 3-6 schools-- the k-2 school that feeds them is Rosemary Hills.

Chevy Chase and Somerset are the closest, then Bethesda, Woodacres and North Bethesda. All are very good shools.

Rock Creek Forest is closer in than North Chevy Chase and close to 16th, Connecticut Ave and RCP -- all pretty good commute routes to downtown.

Westbrook is off of Mass Ave and is less than 1 mile from the DC border.

North Bethesda is a middle school and a fair distance from the DC line.

The Mass Ave corridor is pretty dense with schools. Like PPers have said, Westbrook is closest with Wood Acres just a few miles in. Bannockburn, Bradley Hills and Burning Tree are all in quick succession from there. The commute distance is a few miles at most.

Can't you just look at a map? Honestly, is this worth people describing where schools are located, when there is no substance at all to this thread?

Pick your commute route- Mass Ave, Wisconsin, or Connecticut (or 16th but that's largely SS not Bethesda).

If you pick Mass, you have first Westbrook, then Woodacres. Westbrook is small and Woodacres is huge. But then you have more hoses to choose from in Woodacres. These are more traditional suburban neighborhoods.

For Wisconsin: Bethesda is in downtown Bethesda, plusses and minuses there, slightly more diverse. Somerset is super trendy, and costs it. more urban neighborhood.

Connecticut- chevy chase, Rosemary Hills, etc. This has the K-2 school, which is different.

OP, make sure you really take class size and the actual teaching taking place in these schools' classrooms into consideration and don't just go by the "good school" reputation, which is largely test-score based and reflects more on parental income/education level than on the teaching that may be taking place in any particular school. We bought in one district in Bethesda due to its "excellent" reputation but have not been happy with either the curriculum or the teaching that we have found once here.

PP, how do you determine this? We are considering neighborhoods in Bethesda and are trying to get a feel for the schools. Do the tours give a true picture? How can you evaluate the quality of teachers? We don't have friends who live in these neighborhoods.
