FCPS Schools Canceled Monday

Anonymous
Our principal sent the following email....

Despite all our efforts here in the community, FCPS is not yet ready to open schools tomorrow. The decision was just made and employees notified. Offices will be open and teachers will be in but safety of the children in many of our schools is still an issue and so classes will not be in session and students will not attend.

That info (that school is canceled) is not yet up on the FCPS website... Will check it later in the day.

Wow -- teachers will be in? Most teachers don't have a backup plan for childcare for snowdays; they are usually off if their kids are home from school.

I was actually coming to post the same thing. No, it is not on the FCPS website yet but all of my teacher friends have received the same information. I really think the county is at a loss as to what to do about the sidewalks (so many kids walk to school) and the bus stops. In addition, it may also snow a little bit more tomorrow. Ugh.

They also suggested a delayed opening on Tuesday though did not say 1 or 2 hours.

Well, it is a holiday for some so maybe spouses will be able to fill in...if not, parents often bring their kids into our school during teacher workdays if need be. It is not ideal, but at least they can come in and get some things done.

It's official now:

Feb. 14 - 1:30 p.m. - On Monday, February 15, all Fairfax County public schools will be closed for students; however, teachers and staff are to report for a normal work day. School Age Child Care (SACC) centers will be closed. Schools are open on Monday evening for community building use. Parents and community members should check with their activity sponsor to determine which activities will be held.

I'm a teacher in another county and a single parent so I plan on bringing my child to work. Luckily my principal is a nice person and allows this for days like this.
