Turning down Ivies

I turned down Cornell engineering for MIT, but it's not for the reasons you might think. My parents didn't want to give me a car. No way I would function in a rural setting without a car. Made much more sense to be in Cambridge.

Plot twist: choosing MIT over Cornell didn't ruin PP's life or career.

Pitzer was built around 1960s during the anti Vietnam, anti establishment, anti everything, Woodstock period. It's ideal for the left leaning types.

Did your kid get a merit scholarship from WashU?

The moral of the story seems to be that lots of kids chose lots of schools over Cornell. And Cornell's choice to waitlist many of their otherwise qualified ED applicants this year will likely make that choice even more probable for this class (it certainly did for my kid and the kids she knows who were waitlisted and then chose other schools after later being accepted to Cornell and other top schools - love the school that loves you back.)

The moral of the story is a whole lot more students choose to turn down non-ivies pluses including state unis for the real ivy plus experience. It's just as easy to love the ivy pluses that love you back.

First, "we" didn't turn down anything: your Rice-bound kid did; and the fact that so many parents can't separate themselves from their children is precisely what's screwing them up.

Second, Rice is a great school, but the fact that you're all for "less drama" says something about your privilege and self-interest. And if your child chose Rice for the same reason, well, s/he' s no loss for Columbia.

For every Rice cross-admit who turn down Columbia, there are 10 who turn down Rice for Columbia.

But the Rice kids won’t die of dehydration in a building with running water. The Ivy mirage has been exposed by these pathetic Columbia brats. Get over it.

Columbia admin is worse than NKorea. They called cops on their own students. Screw Columbia.

For good reason. Shame they didn’t call sooner. Now my firm is just waiting on the names of the participants so we can make sure not to hire them.
