Why is no one talking about them? Are we the only ones who got the results this weekend? I am not overly excited about my child's results. He did okay but I am not thrilled (I hate that word but can't think of a better one right now) but I before I get really depressed I would like to know how he faired among his peers. I do know that there were some questions in the tests (in math) that had not yet been covered in class, which upsets me but I suppose that is the nature of exams. I am hoping that since this is an anonymous board parents will be willing to share their results. |
They bit the dust on the math section. Horrible results for the school. |
This is the OP. I am a little relieved to hear that because my son's strongest subject is math and he only got a 5 - his lowest stantine (or whatever they are called). I hope others respond. |
Do schools really share with parents any details about how the entire class or other kids in the class did? I would have assumed that the only info any individual parent gets is how her own child scored, and what percentile that score is among all ERB tests. |
OP here. I don't expect the teachers to tell me how X or Y did but I do expect them to tell me how well/badly my son did wrt his peers. That will give me an indication of whether it is my son who is slacking or the whether the kids were all ill prepared.
In any case my post was really directed at parents. I was expecting parents to talk about the results more but no one has said a thing. |
of course they need to share the averages of the school. it is so important! this is the essence of standardized testing --to check that the schools are covering the curriculum and that the chldren "get it" as well as to see how the children fare against other students and other schools.

Beauvoir alum chiming in. DC had perfect 9s in each of his math stanines across the board. Also loves math, I enriched his math experience with several online programs. I didn't trust the level of math that he was getting in the classroom. The parents who shared scores with me revealed how disappointed they were with their child's math scores.
Prepare on your own for next fall's ERBs, research programs, talk to Beauvoir's curriculum leader. |
OP here. Thanks for sharing. It does trouble me that we are paying so much and yet have to supplement the teaching as well. Ah well - we live and learn. |
Our son scored 6-8 on his ERBs, using Independent School Norm. |
At the State of School Address yesterday, Paula shared that the average overal score last year's 3rd Grade Class was 99%. Hopefully, you will see great progress for next year. I am sure my memory is correct because this information was also presented as a visual aid. |
I noticed that yesterday too - |
I am sorry - are you the alum or is your son? Did he take the 2nd grade ERB in November 09? Thanks |
I was disappointed in my son's math results too. I immediately went online looking for supplemental work. And First in Math sucks....this is my opinion!!!! |
Do all kids at privates take ERBs? |
These private scchools are really screwing around with math. I have my ds at another very expensive DC private school, and I find them to be lazy and irresponsible. The teachers and administration are trying to see just how much they can get away with before we notice. |
