Anyone use the Graco Travel Lite Crib?

Anonymous
I'm planning to use the Graco Travel Lite Crib as a bassinet for the first couple months and then for a playpen...wondering if anyone has used it and has found an extra mattress insert for the bassinet--I think the existing pad will be too hard for baby. I'm not sure about the size--if any other mattress pad would fit since it's smaller than a standard pack n play.
Thanks a bunch!

We use it as a bassinet and the existing mattress is just fine for our baby.

We have one, but didn't use it as a bassinet - although it would have worked fine for a couple of months. It was fantastic for traveling or using at Grandma's house. No problem with the hard mattresss. I wound't recommend it for a playpen though. It seems really small for a child to be confined in to actually "play."

Gotcha, thanks! PP--can you use it for the baby to sleep on the bottom once they are bigger? Is that how you used it at Grandma's? Thanks!

Our DD was small (25th percentile) and by about 8 months she outgrew it as a travel crib. In hindsight it was a complete waste of money as we only used it 6 or 7 times and then we needed the full size pack-n-play. So if you want to use a pack-n-play when your baby gets older, you will wind up needing to buy a bigger one sooner or later. That being said, you may want to consider just buying a bassinet (assuming they are the same price as a Graco lite, I'm not sure as we got a hand-me-down bassinet) and then the larger pack-n-play for traveling and later use. I think the pack-n-play mattress is fine, but I'm sure DD's bassinet mattress was more comfortable.

To answer your other question, the bassinet feature of the Graco lite is up to around 15 pounds, and then the baby sleeps on the bottom.

Babies don't need anything softer. In fact, firm is recommended, so they don't accidentally smother themselves. Newbies have very little upper body/neck/shoulder strength to lift themselves and their noses off whatever they're sleeping on.

Or so I hear.

Anyway, my DD, now age 2+, still can sleep just fine on that little firm mattress pad that comes with the pack-n-play.

we got one as a second crib/bassinet for downstairs, and may use it for travel in the spring. baby sleeps very well in there--firm mattresses are best when they are little. I don't think they are big enough for the long haul but we didn't want a huge pack and play in our living room and wanted something to travel with when our baby is 4 months, when we are taking a trip to visit family.

I have a full-size pack n play not the travel lite, but on the instructions it says not to use another mattress than the mattress provided b/c the mattress 's thickness and firmess is specifically designed to meet safety standards for the pack n play which are not the same standards as for a crib; any other mattress than the mattress provided would be unsafe so please do not get another mattress.
My baby slept fine on the mattress provided by the way.

Oops pp 915 here, I misread your post. I have a full size pack and play and we still use it 2 years later. I wouldn't purchase the travel crib since you will likely grow out of it soon.

OP here...thanks you guys..will probably stick with the travel lite only because we live in a tiny apartment, not sure if the full sized would fit down the hallway--and we plan to do some traveling after a few months. Either way, I will NOT be buying a separate mattress--great to know. Thanks again.

Can anyone tell what the dimensions are of the travel lite bassinet pad?

I am using the Graco travel lite crib for my 1 yr old granddaughter to sleep in. I have been looking for a mattress pad because I feel the pad that it came with is so hard. I have not been able to find anything. The measurements I have are 20X30. I have read that the the pad the travel crib comes with is OK for the baby to sleep on. It just seems so hard.

We used it for 3 months as a bassinet. It worked out well for that but DD (who was large for her age) definitely was outgrowing it by 3 months! The mattress seemed fine. We didn't supplement with anything else. When we moved my DD to her crib though she immediately started sleeping through the night and really seemed to like having more space!

I don't think it could be used for a playpen. It really isn't nearly as large as a Pack N Play. If you need it for a playpen as well I would just get the Pack N Play so you don't have to buy one thing.

I bought the travel lite crib for a friend, intending to get one for myself. When I saw how tiny it was, I reconsidered. Unless you are really going to only use it as a basinette, I'd go for the regular pack n play with stages. The travel lite is way too small for a playpen--it's more like a holding cell than a pen!
