Why is Northeastern (NEU) so popular with both parents and students these days?

Test optional and gaming. Also the students are gaming with power scoring etc. When I took the SAT, you had to earn a 1500 in one sitting and couldn’t not submit your score and still get into college.

No that's not it.

Not Elite University is a perfect name for them, because this outrageous quest to put them in pantheon of top schools in the country is nothing but insecurity.

They love to say that their history has nothing to do with their prestige when prestige is largely based upon history, past accomplishments, and awareness of these things amongst the general public.

Not Elite University doesn’t have the history, past accomplishments, or awareness of the public to claim much prestige. In fact, the general awareness of the school amongst those living today is reflective of their not so elite past. It has very little name recognition among the general public. And that’s the point of the boosting, to let us know how “great” it is today so that maybe some prestige will follow. But the continuous posting attacking straw men for being “rejected” actually helps to solidify in my view how weak and insecure this school is.

We live in the 21st century with data and information readily available and thats how most people make important decisions.
You are an old woman living in the past.

Before covid/TO, NEU's SAT scores were pretty much the same. Even on this basic, undeniable fact, the DAR grandmothers cling to the idea that the world has not changed in the past 50 years. Unreal.

Northeastern’s prestige has it changed in the last 50 years. It had none in the past, it has none now.

2020-2021

SAT 25%-75%
1430-1540

For comparison's sake:
Boston University
SAT 25%-75%
1340-1460

In fairness, BU has a stonger humanities program, so international relations, communications, etc. score lower than engineering/computer science, science, pre-med majors.

+1. Not to mention, PP trying to make fetch happen with name calling. No wonder they were not admitted.

Looks like the hater is a prestige whore who feels very uncomfortable that Northeastern's performance is as good as so-called elite schools in many ways. Of course it takes history and Northeastern didn't happen overnight.

Northeastern has a great history of supporting the working class. Those so-called elite schools were catering to rich families and had built country club like cartels.  They are now saying they proudly and generously share some spots with the lower class.

Northeastern served the working class from the beginning offering night classes for them and established the coop program. The coop program and the industry relationship goes all the way back to the beginning. MIT was also a vocational school in the beginning. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Looks like the NEU booster is a prestige whore who is obsessed with NEU’s relative lack of prestige. It’s ok, one day everyone will know that there is no difference between Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, MIT, and Northeastern University.

VA resident here. Of course UVA and VT were on the list.
Got some aid/scholarship from Northeastern. Overall cost was little more than UVA but not too much.
So quickly out of VA to Boston.

Truly mystery what made this person like this.
This is some serious mental disease.

Northeastern's SAT score is impressive. Really odd that someone's biggest gripe about the school was it was a commuter college 50 years ago!
