Hi all,
I need to find a children's dentist for my 2.5 yo daughter. I've heard of Dr. Perez and Dr. Greenwald (both in Friendship Heights), but don't know anything about them. I'd love to hear thoughts on them or anyone else particularly good. Many thanks!! |
OP, I asked this exact question last week and got nothing. I really hope someone has some good suggestions! |
Alan Kuwabara is very good. |
Ricardo Perez at Metropolitan Pediatric Dentistry 301 718 1012. His staff is amazing with children. The only downside is that they do not take insurance. |
We love Dana Greenwald. Saw her recently for the first time after a recommendation from friends. She and her staff are fabulous with kids -- and not fazed by the fears of a 2 year old. OF course, she doesn't take insurance, but we find dental insurance doesn't really cover any dentist that we like. |
Hi,
I was just in to see my dentist (Dr. Gray at McDermott Giannini & Gray) , and asked about this, too. My DC is only 1, but my dentist said kids should start seeing a pediatric dentist at the age of 3. Here are his two recommendations, below. I obviously haven't tried either of them yet, but I would think they'd both be great. Good luck! Ricardo A. Perez, DDS, PC 5530 Wisconsin Avenue Suite 1230 Chevy Chase, MD 20815 (301) 718-1012 Dana S. Greenwald, DDS 5225 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Suite 604 Washington, DC 20015 (202) 966-0045 |
Love Dr. Kuwabara, too. Had a bad experience at a dentist in Arlington, and he was recommended to us by a couple of different people. Had a very good experience at his place - the office was calm and my son was relaxed. |
Dr. Dana!
Dr. Dana Greenwald is wonderful, as his her staff. She's right near Friendship Heights metro. |
I agree, and he has a pretty soft touch with my mild SPD son to boot. He's also in Friendship Heights. Dr. Dana is never taking new patients it seems. |
Our kids have seen Dr. Dana Greenwald for years. As other PPs have noted, she and her staff are gentle and kind; Dana has a great sense of humor that allows her to really connect with the kids. Additionally, the office is run very efficiently with appointments running pretty much on time. Finally, Dana's explainations for parents are always clear and thorough. Basically, we can't say enough good things about her and her staff. |
We loved Dr Dana too but with 3 kids and no insurance acceptance by her - it got ridiculous. We switched to Dr. Shahinfar who does take our insurance (costs us basically nothing additional to take our kids every 6 months). So far its been fine and we are happy. |
Another vote for Alan Kuwabara ! My 5 and 3 year olds barely blinked at getting teeth examined, cleaned etc... thanks to his very gentle approach. They also love how the office is decorated like an aquarium. |
Also a satisfied Dr. Dana family. However, thinking of switching due to the no insurance. The big problem with no insurance is that she charges on her rate schedule instead of the insurance negotiated usual and customary rate schedule. So, when my 5 year old had to have 2 cavities filled in baby teeth, it was over $400. The insurance repaid me 80% of the expected charge, expected charge was around $150 total. 80% back to me was $120. So, $280 out of pocket. It would have been $30 with someone who took insurance. Part of the difference was due to her use of Nitrous Oxide which is not a covered addition for a cavity, but my daughter felt no pain.
I just told my kids this morning they were going to have to start going to my dentist who take our insurance, and they begged not to change providers. Among other things, they love the toys in waiting room, the goody bags, the manicures. But I figure, we can go to the toy store, each can buy a $20 item, and we'll still come out ahead at the end of a cleaning, way ahead if anyone needs a cavity filled. |
Does Dr. Kuwabara take insurance? Neither Greenwald nor Perez do. |
I would vote for Dr Kuwabara- as a kid his father was my dentist, and I always loved going! |
