Volleyball club- recap and thoughts

Metro 16s have a tough fight to win that bracket to make it to gold. I don’t expect them to beat A5 16s, but anything can happen. Would have been nice if Paramount was still in the runnings for open.

A couple 17 teams are at NEQ trying to get bids in different divisions. The teams below made it to the gold bracket in USA and American divisions, today’s play will determine if they win a bid.

USA:
Blue Ridge 17 Blue

American:
Metro 17 North (#2 team)
Renaissance 17 Black DE

Metro 16s got the open bid. An open bid is the hardest thing to achieve in club volleyball. Congrats to Metro 14, 16 and 18, and Paramount 15, for all getting the open bids. Let’s all celebrate greatness in our area for all these kids achieving greatness

There are a lot of self-congratulatory parents on here...or maybe just the same few with the conversations amongst themselves

I thought TAV would beat them but Metro pulled it off. Congrats to them!

^I meant A5 not TAV.

With Metro 16 now getting an open bid, does this mean either MVSA or VA jrs will move up from Freedom division?

Everybody moves up a spot now. Same thing that happened with Paramount 15s getting their open bid. 2nd place at regionals now becomes 1st, 3rd place becomes 2nd, etc.

I should have taken these posts as a red flag. We just wrapped up our season with RVC. What a crap shoot.

Did something happen with Renaissance?

Blue Ridge 16 Blue earned a USA bid at NEQ, but declined. Same for Blue Ridge 17 Blue. Are there penalties for declining a bid (or is that only if you keep a "lower" bid)? Is the region negatively impacted for declined bids?

I don't believe so. Blue ridge declines every year bc they are already playing beach when nationals comes around.

It is not permissible to decline an Open Bid. However, a team may decline a bid for any other division of GJNC at a qualifier (including USA, like Blue Ridge did). It’s definitely not the best look for the Region, and the Region higher-ups won’t like it. However, per the rule book it is permissible so there’s nothing they can do about it.

Re: Renaissance - don't know what happened, but yes, stay away from there. Owner encouraged our daughter to come on board in order to secure a spot long term while a friend of mine's daughter who is older who has been through this says he daughter received continuous e-mails/texts from the owner to replace long standing players on the team at her age group. In addition, they have a contract to rent space in a shared gym, they have been bumped out from time to time (not permanently) and have had to go to other places. The owner required the parents to foot the bill for the new space even though they already paid for the existing space. Parents that I have talked to there have moved their kids. In addition, the volleyball there isn't that great - certainly not worth the aggravation.
